BISHKEK, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a bill into law which imposes fines for disseminating false information in media and on the internet, the president's official website said Friday.
The purpose of the amendments to the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Offenses is to ensure information security and the rights of citizens to receive objective and reliable information, the report said.
Under the amendments, individuals will face fines of about 220 U.S. dollars, while legal entities will be fined approximately 745 dollars for spreading false information.
The law will come into force 10 days after the date of its official publication. ■
