KABUL, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Education has launched community-based classrooms for children who have been deprived of primary education in the western Ghor province, the ministry said on Saturday.
Aiming to provide education opportunities to local communities in rural areas, the initiative has helped establish 81 classrooms for 2,305 children in the province, the ministry said on social media.
Millions of Afghan children have been deprived of formal education due to poverty, displacement, and lack of access to nearby schools throughout the war-stricken country.
Due to restrictions set by the Afghan interim government, girls are not allowed to attend classes above grade six, and females are prohibited from attending universities until further notice. ■
